Bethlehem - A
Palestinian academic has called for finding a proper representation for the
Palestinians in the diaspora that would take into consideration their opinions
regarding their national cause.
Dr. Karma Al-Nabulsi, a lecturer at Oxford University, addressed two seminars in
the Doheisha and Am’ari refugee camps in the Bethlehem district over the past
couple of days.
She said that majority of the Palestinians were not properly represented and
their voices were not heard.
Nabulsi said that Palestinians in the diaspora were not consulted over recent
initiatives such as the “Switzerland document” and they were deprived of
participation in the first Palestinian general elections in 1996.
She asked the PLO to include representatives of all Palestinians regardless of
their places of existence.
Nabulsi, who had worked as a consultant for the PLO in a number of countries and
an advisor to the PLO delegation to the peace talks in Washington in the early
1990s, said that foreign pressures were attempting to divide the Palestinian
people into various sectors within and outside the homeland.
